Research Analysts are involved in a wide range of responsibilities, including collecting and analyzing economic and statistical data, conducting econometric research, managing databases, and supporting high-quality analytical work through programming and data visualization. The appointment begins as a one-year contractual position and may be renewed based on organizational needs and individual performance, with the possibility of up to four years of cumulative contractual service. The flagship Research Analyst Program itself provides participants with an intensive two-year career development experience, preparing them for future opportunities within academia, international organizations, and the private sector.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Research Analyst Program, applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or another related quantitative discipline.
- Possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred and considered more competitive).
- Have at least two years of relevant professional experience in a similar role.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and essential spreadsheet functions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in statistical, analytical, and econometric software such as STATA, EViews, R, TSP, SPSS, Matlab, or SAS.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with finance, budgeting, macroeconomic data, people analytics, or macroeconomic research.
- Experience using presentation and data visualization tools such as PowerPoint, Tableau, Excel Charts, Keynote, or Prezi.
- Familiarity with database management tools including Power BI, SQL, Microsoft Access, or IBM Cognos BI.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and database management skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage confidential information professionally.
