The European Union and African Union have partnered to offer fully funded PERI ACE Scholarships to eligible African students. The Intra-Africa PERI ACE Scholarship supports Master’s and Doctoral studies across participating African higher education institutions, covering tuition, travel, accommodation, research expenses, and a monthly subsistence allowance of €1,230.

The programme is designed to strengthen academic cooperation and mobility between African universities while developing highly skilled graduates who can contribute to sustainable development across the continent.

Scholarship Details

The Partners Enhancing Resilience through African Centres of Excellence (PERI-ACE) is an EU-funded project under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme.

The initiative promotes collaboration among African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and facilitates academic mobility across the continent. Through participating institutions, the programme provides scholarship opportunities for Master’s and Doctoral students, trainees, and university staff.

PERI-ACE focuses on strengthening African academic institutions and developing expertise in areas relevant to the continent’s resilience and development priorities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the PERI ACE Intra-Africa Mobility Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an African national.
  • Be both a national and resident of an African country.
  • Be registered or admitted to an African Higher Education Institution, or have obtained a university degree from an African institution.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the selected programme.
  • Submit all required documents and information.
  • Meet any additional requirements specified by the chosen host institution and mobility programme.

Scholarship Benefits

The PERI ACE Intra-Africa Mobility Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Airfare and travel costs.
  • Visa fees.
  • Accommodation and subsistence allowance.
  • €1,230 monthly subsistence allowance, where applicable.
  • One-time settling-in allowance.
  • Annual female allowance.
  • Health and other insurance coverage.
  • Tuition fees and other academic expenses.
  • Printing and study-related costs.
  • Research and fieldwork expenses.
  • Mobility-related support.
  • A special-needs scholarship for one eligible candidate with a disability.

Eligible Programmes

Master’s Level

Scholarships are available through two main pathways:

  • Full Degree Programmes: These run for approximately 24 months and focus on specialised areas such as Water Resources Engineering and Management.
  • Credit-Seeking Mobilities: These last approximately 10 months and allow students to undertake focused study or research while remaining enrolled at their home university.

Doctoral Level

  • Doctoral scholarships support 36-month research programmes.
  • Research areas are aligned with regional development priorities, including:
    • Climate-resilient agriculture in West Africa.
    • Urban adaptation in East Africa.
    • Renewable energy in Southern Africa.

How to Apply

To apply for the PERI ACE Intra-Africa Mobility Scholarship 2026:

  • Shortlisting and selection are scheduled to take place from September 16 to October 16, 2026.
  • The final selection meeting is scheduled for October 23, 2026.

  • Scholarship activities are expected to commence from November 2, 2026.
