FG Confirms Resolution of WAEC 2025 Result Glitch, Set to Introduce Computer-Based Testing by 2026

WAEC WASSCE exam malpractice

The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed that the technical issue which affected the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results has been fully resolved.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the glitch was linked to post-release processing in subjects where paper serialisation was introduced by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as part of its enhanced examination security measures.

The Ministry commended WAEC for its prompt intervention, transparency, and professionalism in addressing the issue. It further disclosed that the updated results will be available on the result checker portal within the next 24 hours.

Acknowledging the patience and understanding of affected candidates, the Ministry reiterated its commitment to upholding fairness, accuracy, and credibility in all examination processes.

“This resolution aligns with the Honourable Minister’s ongoing reform agenda, which places a strong emphasis on examination integrity across key assessment bodies, including WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO),” the statement said.

As part of these reforms, the Ministry revealed plans for both WAEC and NECO to begin a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), starting with objective questions in November 2026.

“The shift to CBT marks a significant step in the fight against exam malpractice and question leakages. It is intended to restore public confidence in the examination system and ensure that students are evaluated purely on merit,” the statement added.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Alausa, reaffirmed that protecting the integrity of examinations is a national priority. “Maintaining high standards is not negotiable. It safeguards the future of our young people and preserves the global credibility of our qualifications,” he said.
