The ECOWAS Volunteers Programme (EVP) 2026 is a 12-month volunteer programme that offers participants a monthly volunteer allowance, professional work experience, hands-on training, and additional allowances while contributing to peacebuilding, regional integration, and sustainable development across the ECOWAS region.

Program Details

The ECOWAS Volunteers Programme (EVP) is now accepting applications from qualified young professionals who are passionate about supporting development initiatives across West Africa. As one of the flagship programmes of the ECOWAS Commission, the initiative is designed to mobilize the expertise and commitment of young citizens to support the implementation of national development priorities in host countries and local communities.

During the 12-month programme, volunteers will serve in key development sectors while gaining valuable professional experience, strengthening their leadership skills, and broadening their cultural and professional exposure. The programme also provides participants with an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to regional integration, peacebuilding, and sustainable development across ECOWAS Member States.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the ECOWAS Volunteers Programme (EVP) 2026, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an ECOWAS Member State
  • Be 35 years old or younger at the time of recruitment
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience, including at least two (2) years of experience working with an international organization
  • Be willing to serve outside their country of origin, as international volunteers generally cannot be deployed to their home country
  • Note that Nigerian applicants with specialized skills may be considered

Program Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

  • A 12-month volunteer contract
  • Monthly Basic Volunteer Allowance of $412.50 (approximately $4,950 over 12 months) or its equivalent in local currency
  • Additional allowances in line with the ECOWAS Volunteers’ Conditions of Service

  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Copies of academic certificates, diplomas, and work certificates
  • Copy of an international passport or National Identity Card
  • Police clearance certificate issued within the last three months (required before assumption of duty)
