Scholarship Details
Applications are currently invited for an MSc graduate research opportunity in Aquatic Resources Monitoring within National Forests in the southeastern United States at the University of Montana (UM).
The selected graduate student will enroll in the Wildlife Biology Program at the University of Montana and will be expected to reside in Missoula, Montana, while conducting fieldwork across the southeastern USA.
The student will collaborate with a United States Forest Service research team to conduct field studies, statistical analyses, and syntheses of fish population and genetic data. The research aims to improve monitoring systems and adaptive management strategies within southeastern National Forest ecosystems.
The scholarship position is primarily funded through research assistantships and supplemented with teaching assistantships. Candidates who demonstrate satisfactory progress and secure additional funding may also have the opportunity to transition into a PhD program at the University of Montana.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the University of Montana Graduate Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate:
- Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with software such as:
- R
- JAGS
- STAN
- Experience in analyzing genetic or genomic data
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Experience conducting fieldwork in streams within the southern Appalachian Mountains is preferred
