Scholarship Details
The University of Cambridge is inviting applications for a fully funded three-year PhD studentship supervised by Professor Caroline Trotter. The research project is hosted at the University of Cambridge and forms part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Protection Research Unit in Vaccines and Immunisation.
This research unit is a collaborative initiative involving the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), University College London (UCL), and the University of Cambridge. The PhD project focuses on developing a structured framework for vaccine decision-making that considers the wider impact on immunisation programmes.
Successful candidates will examine specific case studies to assess how vaccine policy decisions may be improved using the proposed framework. The project will also contribute to the refinement of future immunisation strategies and public health policies.
Throughout the programme, students will gain expertise in infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling of vaccine-preventable diseases, and health economics. In addition, participants will be expected to design and implement public involvement and engagement activities to ensure that vaccine research reflects the perspectives and needs of the wider community.
