Scholarship Details
The Mississippi State University Master’s Scholarship is offered through a Master of Science Graduate Research Assistantship focused on using stable isotope analysis to track freshwater exposure in bottlenose dolphins.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Sandra B. Correa, Associate Professor in the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. The research involves field sample collection in the coastal rivers of Mississippi, laboratory analysis, and collaboration with researchers at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
In addition to conducting research, the selected student will contribute to scientific publications, present findings at professional conferences, and complete the requirements for a Master of Science degree within two years.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Mississippi State University Master’s Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in:
- Wildlife and Fisheries
- Biology
- Ecology
- Natural Resources
- Biochemistry
- Or a related field.
- Have excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Have an interest in aquatic ecology and statistical analysis.
- Be willing to participate in intensive seasonal fieldwork and coordinate closely with research collaborators.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Experience operating and trailering boats, as well as developing laboratory standard operating procedures, is highly desirable.
