The Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Adetola Abubakar, has provided educational materials and financial support to pupils and residents to mark the beginning of the new academic session.
According to a statement from the LCDA on Saturday, the exercise was held at the council secretariat on Thursday, where hundreds of pupils received back-to-school items including exercise books and other learning materials.
Parents and guardians also benefited, as they were offered financial assistance to cover additional school-related expenses.
During the event, Abubakar explained that the initiative reflected her administration’s commitment to ensuring access to quality education while reducing the economic burden on families. She emphasized that no child in Agboyi-Ketu should be denied education due to lack of resources.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying it would relieve financial pressure and encourage pupils to focus on their studies.
The initiative adds to a growing list of community development projects under Abubakar’s leadership, which has prioritized education, youth empowerment, and social welfare.
In August, PUNCH Online reported that Abubakar distributed 300 free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to school leavers within the council.
Abubakar, a former Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was elected council chairperson on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In the last local government election, she won with 42,770 votes, defeating her closest rival, Salami Taofeek of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 1,400 votes, while Labour Party’s Shoyemi Tolulope polled 962 votes.
