Scholarship Details
The PTDF In-Country Scholarship is a Federal Government-funded initiative aimed at developing local capacity and expertise in petroleum technology to meet the demands of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The programme is designed to support qualified students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Nigerian universities, particularly in disciplines related to the energy sector.
Through this scheme, applicants are given the opportunity to access quality education, strengthen their technical knowledge, and benefit from structured academic support within approved institutions. The scholarship also promotes the development of indigenous talent by equipping students with the skills required to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s oil and gas industry.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the PTDF Scholarship Programme, applicants must:
Postgraduate Applicants:
- Possess a full-time admission letter into a Federal University in Nigeria
- Have a minimum of Second-Class Lower (2.2) in a relevant field
- Hold at least a merit in a second degree (for PhD applicants)
- Possess at least 5 O’Level credits (WAEC/SSCE/NECO), including English and Mathematics (maximum of 2 sittings)
- Have NYSC certificate or exemption letter
- Provide certificate of indigeneship (state and local government)
- Submit:
- Personal statement (minimum 1000 words for MSc applicants)
- PhD research proposal (not more than 6 pages, relevant to oil & gas)
Undergraduate Applicants:
- Be a full-time student in a Federal University in Nigeria
- Be currently in 200 level
- Study a course related to the oil and gas industry
- Possess 5 O’Level credits including English and Mathematics
- Have a valid admission letter
- Maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (on a 5.0 or 4.0 scale equivalent to 2.2)
- Provide first-year academic transcript (signed and stamped by appropriate authorities)
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of the PTDF In-Country Scholarship will receive:
- Financial support for tuition and study expenses
- Annual stipends:
- Undergraduate: ₦500,000 per year (₦625,000 in the first year)
- Postgraduate: ₦700,000 per year
- Laptop provision
- Academic support throughout the duration of study
