The fellowship was established in honour of Sir Harry Evans, widely recognized as one of the pioneers of modern investigative journalism. The program is designed to help participants build strong fact-based reporting, research, and storytelling abilities through practical newsroom experience and academic collaboration.

During the fellowship period, successful applicants will be employed by Durham University and will spend part of their time on placement within the Reuters newsroom in London or another approved Reuters-affiliated media partner. Fellows will also engage with Durham University’s departments, institutes, colleges, and researchers to further develop investigative projects and journalistic ideas.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Durham University Evans Global Fellowship 2026, applicants must:

  • Applicants who are not currently practicing journalists but possess investigative reporting experience in related professional fields may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
