Scholarship Details

Applications are now open for the 42nd Cycle of the University of Messina PhD Scholarships for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The scholarship is open to graduates from Italy and around the world, with no restriction on nationality or age, and covers 15 PhD programmes across a wide range of disciplines, including Engineering, Chemical Sciences, Psychology, Law, Political Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, and many others.

Successful applicants will receive a fully funded scholarship and begin their doctoral studies on 1 November 2026. In addition to standard PhD positions, the university also offers Executive PhD opportunities in collaboration with industry partners, high-level trainee positions, and scholarships funded by regional and national organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the University of Messina PhD Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s Degree, Specialist Degree, Old System Degree, or an equivalent foreign qualification recognized for PhD admission.
  • Or be in the final stage of their studies and obtain the required qualification on or before 31 October 2026. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of admission.

Additional Requirements

Executive PhD Positions

  • Must have an active employment relationship with the affiliated company throughout the duration of the PhD programme.

High-Level Trainee PhD Positions

  • Must be between 18 and 29 years of age.

Regional Scholarships (Call No. 32/2026)

  • Must have been born in Sicily or be a resident of Sicily on the date the call was published.
