Scholarship Details
The Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) is offering up to four (4) MS Graduate Assistantship positions with a preferred start date in Spring or Summer 2026. However, applicants interested in a later start date may also be considered.
These assistantships provide students with an opportunity to engage in significant fisheries research while developing a Master’s thesis on specialized topics. Candidates will gain valuable field and laboratory experience while contributing to key research areas such as:
- Wabash River fish community assessment
- Channel Catfish demographics and spawning box evaluation in small impoundments
- Invasive carp reproduction and recruitment dynamics in the Wabash River
- Invasive carp movement ecology
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the EIU Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
- Be highly motivated and capable of assisting with field sampling, laboratory research, data analysis, and report/manuscript preparation.
- Demonstrate both effective teamwork and independent work abilities.
- Preferably have previous fisheries or aquatic sciences experience, including field and laboratory techniques.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Be physically able to lift up to 40 pounds and work under varied weather conditions.
