The National Youth Service Corps has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the Federal Government’s directive requiring all Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank as part of efforts to combat certificate fraud and ensure that only qualified graduates are mobilized for national service.
The Director-General of NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during his keynote address at the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop held in Abuja. The workshop was themed, “Strengthening Institutional Accountability and Compliance in the NYSC Mobilization Process for Effective Service Delivery.”
Nafiu appealed to Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) to properly educate their students on the new requirement and ensure strict compliance with the policy. He stressed that the responsibility of maintaining a credible mobilization process should not rest solely on the NYSC, but should also involve regulatory agencies, security institutions, and relevant government ministries.
According to him, collaboration among stakeholders would help create a transparent, smooth, and credible transition process for graduates moving from academic life into national service. He also urged institutions and agencies to address challenges within the mobilization system with innovative and lasting solutions.
The NYSC Director-General further emphasized the need for accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the mobilization process to strengthen public trust in the scheme.
Earlier in the event, the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilization, Rachel Ideawor, described the pre-mobilization workshop as an important avenue for strengthening collaboration between the NYSC, Corps Producing Institutions, and other stakeholders involved in the mobilization process.
She acknowledged that while improvements had been made over the years, there was still a need to enhance service delivery throughout the mobilization chain. Ideawor also urged Student Affairs Officers to carry out their duties responsibly and ensure that accurate information about Prospective Corps Members is submitted during mobilization exercises.
The workshop was attended by representatives from several organizations and agencies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, SIDMACH Technologies, as well as 266 Student Affairs Officers from various Corps Producing Institutions nationwide.
