The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Oyo State Chapter, has announced that it will not participate in the planned protest against insecurity scheduled to hold in Ibadan.

In a statement issued by the state president of the association, Mr. Olukunle Fajobi, private school owners across Oyo State were advised not to take part in the demonstration or associate themselves with it in any capacity.

According to the association, although it remains deeply concerned about the security challenges facing the country, particularly those affecting schools, students, teachers, and education stakeholders, it believes that lasting solutions can be achieved through dialogue, collaboration, and engagement with relevant authorities rather than public protests.

NAPPS emphasized its continued commitment to promoting the welfare and safety of learners, educators, school proprietors, and other stakeholders through lawful and constructive means. The association stated that it would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening security within the education sector.

The body further expressed reservations about the proposed rally, noting that it appeared to be driven more by political interests than genuine humanitarian concerns. It also pointed out that major education stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and other key educational institutions, were not officially involved in organizing or supporting the protest.

As a result, NAPPS urged its members to remain focused on their educational responsibilities, maintain peace, and continue to abide by the law.

Part of the statement read: “On behalf of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Oyo State Chapter, I wish to clearly state that our association is not part of, and hereby dissociates itself from, the proposed protest against insecurity scheduled to take place in Ibadan.”

The association reiterated its readiness to work with government agencies and other stakeholders to improve security and create a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils and students throughout Oyo State.
