The Mastercard AfOx Scholarship Programme is a partnership between the University of Oxford, the Mastercard Foundation, and the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx). The programme aims to support 400 talented young Africans to pursue fully funded taught Master’s degrees in programmes related to pandemic preparedness, recovery, and other development-focused fields at Oxford.
Built on the shared values of leadership, inclusion, empathy, and community, the scholarship equips scholars with advanced academic knowledge, entrepreneurial skills, and leadership experience while connecting them with world-class resources and global networks. In addition to academic study, scholars receive extensive personal development support and become part of a lifelong alumni community committed to driving positive change across Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the University of Oxford Mastercard AfOx Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an African country.
- Apply for an eligible graduate programme at the University of Oxford through the University’s graduate admissions portal.
- Indicate during the application process that they wish to be considered for AfOx funding.
- Meet the admission requirements for their chosen Master’s programme.
- Applicants from refugee and displaced backgrounds are encouraged to apply and will receive special consideration.
- The programme strongly encourages applications from historically underrepresented groups, including:
- Women
- Refugees and displaced persons
- Persons with disabilities
