Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship 2027, applicants must:
- Be non-Japanese nationals
- Hold a PhD degree
- Be not more than 45 years old
- Obtain an invitation or acceptance letter from a Japanese host institution or professor
- Be proficient in:
- English, or
- Japanese language
- Have no previous experience of staying or working in Japan
- Be employed in their home country
- Be committed to returning to their home country after the fellowship

Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants for the Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship 2027 will receive:
- Monthly allowance of JPY 220,000 for living and research expenses
- Arrival fund of JPY 120,000
- Round-trip economy class airfare to Japan
- Overseas travel insurance with medical and death benefits
