Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Martingale Foundation Scholarship 2027, applicants must:

  • Come from a low-socioeconomic background.
  • Demonstrate strong academic potential and a genuine passion for research.
  • Be motivated to pursue postgraduate study at Master’s or PhD level.
  • Have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a First Class or Upper Second-Class degree, or an equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject.
  • Be eligible to begin an eligible Master’s or PhD programme at a UK university from September 2027.
  • Qualify for Home Fee status at the relevant Martingale partner university.
  • Have attended school in the UK or Ireland for at least three years between the ages of 11 and 18, or for at least seven years between the ages of 4 and 18.
  • Have completed their GCSEs or equivalent at a state-funded school, or have received a scholarship or bursary covering at least 90% of fees at a fee-paying school or college.
  • Have experienced or be experiencing financial barriers to education, including a household income of £45,000 or less.
