Scholarship Details
Hokkaido University is offering the MEXT Scholarship to exceptional international students seeking admission into the Graduate School of Environmental Science for the October 2027 intake.
The scholarship is provided under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program known as the “Graduate Program for Environmental Conservation Leadership for Post SDGs.” The programme is designed for students with strong academic backgrounds who are passionate about environmental sustainability, conservation, and global development goals.
Selected candidates will enroll directly into Master’s or Doctoral degree programmes without a preliminary research student period. Students are expected to undertake advanced academic and research activities while contributing to environmental and sustainability-focused initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be international students with excellent academic performance
- Be newly entering Japan or currently residing in Japan as international students
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.30 out of 3.00 in previous academic studies
- Be capable of maintaining the required academic performance throughout the scholarship period
- Meet at least one of the English language requirements below:
- Possess English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 or higher
- Have completed previous education in English and meet admission requirements for Japanese graduate school programmes conducted in English
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants for the Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage
- Exemption from application and matriculation fees
- Monthly stipend:
- Master’s students: 144,000 JPY monthly
- Doctoral students: 145,000 JPY monthly
- Round-trip travel expenses provided by MEXT
- Opportunity to study and conduct research in Japan under a globally recognized scholarship programme
