Each year, the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training provides funding to universities to award scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree Research programs.
ANU conducts two annual central scholarship rounds which include the Australian National University RTP Scholarship, the University Research Scholarship, and other centrally managed scholarships.
Candidates are ranked and scholarships are awarded based on a competitive process, to top-ranked candidates who meet merit-based criteria and have a confirmed qualified supervisor, space, and research alignment with ANU’s research strategy.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Australian National University RTP Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a domestic or international student
- Apply to study a Higher Research Degree (HDR) Master’s or PhD programme
- Meet the entry requirements for the chosen programme
- Meet the English Language proficiency requirements of the University
Scholarship Benefits
The Australian Government Research Training Programme offers:
- A $39,069 annual stipend
- Three-year stipend scholarship with the possibility of:
- A six-month standard extension, and
- Another six-month extension if eligible under AGRTP Procedure Item 15 (Period of Support)
- Travel and relocation allowances for students relocating to Canberra
- Thesis allowance
- Dependent child allowance (for international students only)
- Paid medical, maternity, and parental leave
