Scholarship Details

The European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program offers two types of traineeships: an Administrative Traineeship and a Translation Traineeship with the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT).

The programme welcomes applicants from all nationalities regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, age, or background. Selected trainees work across various departments, agencies, and services of the European Commission, primarily in Brussels and Luxembourg, with additional placements in other European Union locations. Beyond gaining professional experience, participants become part of a vibrant international community through networking events, social activities, and non-formal learning opportunities that enrich both their personal and professional development.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the European Commission Blue Book Traineeship Program, applicants must:

  • Have completed a standard three-year higher education degree (minimum EQF Level 6 or equivalent Bachelor’s degree).
  • Provide official proof or certification confirming completion of the degree.
  • Have no previous work experience exceeding six weeks in any:
    • European Union institution
    • EU body or agency
    • EU delegation
    • Office of a Member of the European Parliament (MEP)
    • Office of an Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)

For the Administrative Traineeship:

  • Have an excellent command of two official EU languages.
  • One language must be English, French, or German at C1 or C2 level.
  • The second official EU language must be at least B2 level.
  • Non-EU nationals only need one procedural language at C1 or C2 level.

For the Translation Traineeship:

  • Your target language must be one of the official EU languages.
  • Your first source language must be English, French, or German.
  • Your second source language must be another official EU language with at least B2 proficiency.
