Dublin City University is offering a fully funded doctoral scholarship for full-time PhD study within its School of Law and Government, commencing in September 2026. The scholarship provides financial support through a tuition fee waiver and annual stipend for a period of four years, allowing selected candidates to focus fully on their research studies.

This PhD opportunity is part of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)-funded research project titled “SHINE.” The project is led by Dr. Valesca Lima from the School of Law and Government alongside Professor Stephen Daniels from the School of Electronic Engineering. SHINE is an interdisciplinary four-year research initiative that uses citizen science approaches to investigate how residents of social housing engage with and experience just transitions within the context of sustainability and energy transformation.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the DCU School of Law and Government Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold a Level 8 Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following or related fields:
- Political Science
- Public Policy
- Sociology
- Human Geography
- Education
- Data Science
- Environmental Science
- Sustainable Systems
- Other relevant engineering or environmental disciplines
- Demonstrate a strong interest in social justice and related research areas
- Possess a Master’s Degree (Level 9) in a relevant field (desirable but not mandatory)
