Fellowship Details

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is inviting professional journalists to participate in the Biodiversity Fellowships for Journalists 2026 in Armenia. This fully funded program will bring together journalists from different parts of the world to cover the UNCBD COP17 Conference, scheduled to hold in Yerevan from October 19 to October 30, 2026.

As part of the fellowship, selected participants will receive reporting resources, technical assistance, and opportunities to engage with biodiversity experts and policymakers. Prior to the conference, fellows will take part in a pre-COP online workshop where they can interact with experts and seek clarification on reporting-related issues.

During COP17, participants will attend specially organized activities, including orientation sessions led by biodiversity specialists, interviews with senior officials, and mentoring sessions with experienced journalists who have covered major UN conferences. Fellows will also receive editorial guidance from EJN trainers and collaborate with fellow journalists to exchange ideas and strengthen their reporting on biodiversity and environmental issues.

Eligibility Criteria

To be qualified for the Biodiversity Fellowships for Journalists 2026, applicants must:

  • Be professional journalists from a low- or middle-income country.
  • Have prior experience reporting on biodiversity-related issues.
  • Clearly indicate the type of stories they intend to cover during the conference.
  • Be available to attend COP17 in person in Yerevan from October 17 to October 31, 2026.
  • Demonstrate a good command of the English language.
  • Submit all required application documents.
  • Be working in any journalistic medium, including:
    • Online media
    • Print media
    • Television
    • Radio
  • Be affiliated with:
    • International media organizations
    • National media organizations
    • Local media organizations
    • Community-based media outlets
  • Freelance journalists are also eligible to apply.

Applicants should note that:

  • Individuals who have previously attended Biodiversity COP fellowships are not eligible.
  • Applications containing AI-assisted content without proper disclosure will be disqualified.
