Applications are currently ongoing for the 2026 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) Program sponsored by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
The Fulbright FLTA Program is part of the broader Fulbright Foreign Student Program and was established to improve Americans’ understanding of foreign cultures and languages by supporting teaching assistantships in more than 30 languages at universities and colleges across the United States.
The program also provides young educators from over 50 countries with the opportunity to strengthen their teaching experience, improve their professional skills, and gain direct exposure to American culture, people, and educational systems. Successful participants will teach their native language and culture while taking courses and participating in professional development activities throughout the duration of the program.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Fulbright FLTA Program, applicants must:
- Reside in their country of nomination at the time of application
- Possess the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record
- Have a Master’s degree (highly desirable at many institutions)
- Be an early-career English teacher, training to become an English teacher, or an educator in a related field
- Have prior teaching experience (preferred)
- Show strong interest in teaching their native language and culture in the United States
- Be fluent in English
- Have a recent English proficiency test score of:
- Minimum 550 (Paper-Based TOEFL)
- 79–80 (Internet-Based TOEFL)
- 6.0 IELTS Overall Score
- Be creative, self-reliant, and able to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students
- Be flexible and willing to learn
- Be adaptable to living in both rural and urban environments
- Demonstrate maturity, professionalism, integrity, and dependability
- Not hold U.S. citizenship (dual citizens are not eligible)

Successful applicants for the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) Program will receive:

Program Duration
