Scholarship Details

University of Port Harcourt in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), is accepting applications for the TAGDev 2.0 Programme for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0) Programme is a 10-year initiative aimed at empowering young Africans through education, entrepreneurship, and agricultural innovation. The programme seeks to strengthen universities and technical institutions to better support communities while promoting inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient agricultural transformation across Africa.

The scholarship is targeted at academically talented but economically disadvantaged young Nigerians, including individuals from marginalized communities, conflict and post-conflict regions, refugees, and internally displaced persons.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the University of Port Harcourt Mastercard Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen or a refugee residing in Nigeria
  • Come from economically disadvantaged or marginalized communities
  • Be below 25 years for undergraduate studies and below 30 years for master’s studies at the time of application
  • Refugees and internally displaced persons must be below 30 years for undergraduate studies and below 35 years for master’s studies
  • Have completed secondary school or diploma studies within the last two years (or four years for refugees and internally displaced persons)
  • Meet the admission requirements for programmes at the University of Port Harcourt
  • Demonstrate interest in agriculture, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship
  • Show leadership potential and commitment to community transformation
  • Be willing to contribute to agriculture and agricultural value chains
  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply

Undergraduate Requirements

Applicants seeking undergraduate admission must:

  • Possess five O’Level credits including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one of Physics, Economics, or Geography in not more than two sittings
  • Pass the UTME examination with relevant subjects including English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, and Biology or Agricultural Science
  • Choose the University of Port Harcourt as first-choice institution during UTME registration
  • Pass the University of Port Harcourt post-UTME screening exercise
  • Foreign applicants who meet the O’Level requirement are exempted from UTME and first-choice conditions

Postgraduate Requirements

Applicants for postgraduate studies must:

  • Possess credit passes in English Language and Mathematics
  • Hold at least a Second-Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university
  • Applicants for doctoral studies must possess a relevant master’s degree
  • Submit all required supporting documents during application
