Scholarship Details
The Tulane University Masters Scholarship is offered through the Sidlauskas Lab at Tulane University for a master’s student who will conduct a three-year research project on fish ecology in Lake Pontchartrain. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Rieucau Lab at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON).
This research will explore how fish populations interact with artificial reef systems using a combination of traditional specimen collection techniques and advanced high-resolution imaging sonar technology. The project will study fish communities across four artificial reefs to understand which species use specific reef structures and at what times.
The research also aims to test cost-effective and non-lethal monitoring methods for observing reef usage. Specimens collected during the study will be preserved and archived in Tulane’s Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection, which is recognized as the largest collection of preserved post-larval fishes in the world.
