Scholarship Details
The Tsinghua University Amgen Scholars Program is designed to broaden access to high-quality research experiences for undergraduate students who aspire to build careers in science, biotechnology, and drug discovery. The program provides participants with the chance to work in a real laboratory environment where they will engage in cutting-edge scientific research alongside faculty members, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and laboratory technicians.
Each scholar will be placed in a faculty-led research laboratory and assigned a dedicated mentor who will guide them throughout the program. Scholars will actively participate in laboratory work, weekly lab meetings, group discussions, presentation training sessions, and campus-wide academic lectures. As part of the Amgen Scholars Asia initiative, participants will also attend a regional symposium, where they will interact with leading scientists from academia and industry while networking with fellow scholars from around the world.
Beyond research activities, the program includes cultural and social experiences, allowing scholars to explore Beijing, engage in networking events, and gain insight into Chinese culture. The 2026 program will run from June 4 to August 6, 2026, with applications opening on November 1, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified between March and April 2026, offering them the chance to become part of this prestigious international research experience.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Tsinghua University Amgen Scholars Program 2026, applicants must:
- Be an undergraduate student in Asia
- Have completed at least one full year of a bachelor’s degree before the program begins
- Have at least one semester or quarter remaining after the summer program
- Not be graduating before the program starts
- Possess a strong academic record
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English
- Submit an English proficiency test score (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, or TOEIC) if English is not their first language
- Show a strong interest in scientific research and potential plans for postgraduate studies (e.g., PhD)
Eligibility Criteria
Selected scholars are expected to:
- Remain for the entire duration of the program
- Refrain from taking other courses or part-time work during the internship
- Reside in the on-campus accommodation provided by Tsinghua University
- Participate fully in lab meetings, orientations, academic sessions, and social events
- Be punctual and committed to all scheduled activities
- Prepare and present a research poster
- Submit a final research paper to the program director at the end of the program
