Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Japan Government MEXT Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold the nationality of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan
- Not hold Japanese citizenship (dual nationals planning to renounce are eligible)
- Be born on or after April 2, 1991
- Be in good physical and mental health
- Be willing to obtain a new student visa and newly enter Japan for study
- Arrive in Japan on the date designated by Ritsumeikan University (mid-September 2026)
- Have a CGPA of 2.30/3.00 or higher, calculated using MEXT’s formula (the university calculates this, not the applicant)
- For English-taught programs:
- Have English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 or
- Have studied in English in the most recent degree program
