Scholarship Details
The Hornby Trust Scholarship provides up to ten fully funded positions for applicants who meet the University of Exeter’s admission requirements for the MEd TESOL programme starting in September 2026.
The scholarship focuses on developing highly skilled English language educators who can contribute to the advancement of language teaching in their home countries. It targets individuals from low- and middle-income nations listed in the OECD DAC, prioritising those who have demonstrated academic excellence, professional experience, and a strong commitment to improving English language education.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Hornby Trust Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be residents of, and currently employed in, a low- or middle-income country listed in the OECD DAC.
- Have at least three years of full-time TESOL teaching experience or related professional work after their first degree.
- Hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) or higher, or possess a related postgraduate qualification.
- First complete a standard postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL programme to obtain an Exeter student number.
- Include the Exeter student number when applying for the Hornby Scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage
- A minimum stipend of £15,500, paid monthly, to cover accommodation and living expenses (final amount confirmed upon award)
- Return international travel costs
