The Federal Government has dismissed as false a circulating media report claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will no longer be required for admission into tertiary institutions across the country.

In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, clarified that the report did not originate from the Ministry. She noted that the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, had described the publication as misleading, baseless, and entirely unauthorised.

“At no point did the Ministry issue or approve any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Alausa stated.

He reaffirmed that JAMB remains the legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Minister urged the public to disregard the false report and rely only on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for verified information. He also stressed that the Ministry continues to collaborate closely with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and integrity in the admission process.

“The Ministry remains committed to preserving the credibility of the admission system and ensuring that merit and due process continue to guide all entries into tertiary institutions,” Alausa added.

He further cautioned media outlets and online platforms to always verify information from official sources before publication to prevent misinformation and public confusion.

Reiterating that JAMB’s role remains central and indispensable to Nigeria’s tertiary education framework, Alausa confirmed that there has been no change to its statutory functions. He advised the public to depend solely on the verified websites and social media handles of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates and announcements.
