Scholarship Details

Dr. Lauren Gillespie’s new laboratory at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is currently recruiting PhD students for Fall 2026 under a fully funded PhD program. The lab is based in the School for Environment and Sustainability and focuses on developing AI-driven methods for monitoring ecosystems at scale in the Anthropocene.

This research is highly interdisciplinary, combining AI methods development, field-based ecological monitoring, and conservation decision-making. The work aims to explore the impacts of environmental change on species and improve predictive ecological modeling for better conservation outcomes.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Possess an interdisciplinary background in computer science, ecology, environmental science, data science, or GIS.
  • Show intellectual curiosity and potential for independent growth.
  • Previous research experience is desirable but not mandatory.
