Scholarship Details
The University of Arizona Graduate Assistantship 2026 offers international students an opportunity to join the graduate program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology under the supervision of PI Sabrina McNew. The McNew Lab is a collaborative and diverse research group with a strong focus on birds, parasites, and pathogens. The lab uses a wide range of methods, including field ecology, captive experiments, genomics, immunology, and statistical analyses, to better understand host-parasite interactions.
Funding is available for multiple projects, including:
- MSc Project (January 2026): Study on nestling welfare in response to Philornis parasitism in the Galapagos, co-supervised with Sabine Tebbich (University of Vienna). Requirements: Interest in international fieldwork, advanced/native Spanish or German.
- PhD Project (August 2026): Research on the ecology and evolution of Galapagos birds in response to parasitism. Requirements: Interest in international fieldwork, advanced/native Spanish, and interest or experience in genomics.
- PhD Project (August 2026): Study of host-parasite interactions in Sonoran birds. Requirements: Interest in fieldwork, with prior experience working with birds or parasites preferred.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the University of Arizona Graduate Assistantship 2026, applicants must:
- Have prior experience working with wild birds and/or parasites (specific skills not mandatory).
- Possess a strong conceptual background in ecology and evolution.
- Be capable of articulating clear and innovative research ideas.
