Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, has pledged his unwavering support to the state government’s efforts to enhance teaching and learning across educational institutions in the state.

Jatau made this pledge on Sunday while speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of Government Girls College, Sakwa, located in Zaki Local Government Area, which is also his home local government.

Reflecting on the institution’s history, Jatau recounted his role during the administration of former Governor Malam Isah Yuguda in facilitating the transformation of the school from a Teachers’ College into its current status as a Government Girls College.

He noted that the upgrade was driven by a strong belief in the transformative power of girls’ education—not only in shaping individual futures but in advancing societal progress.

The Deputy Governor also commended the current administration led by Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed for sustaining and expanding the vision through significant investments in the education sector.

Highlighting his personal contributions as an alumnus and former Head Boy of the old Government Teachers’ College, Jatau announced the installation of solar-powered streetlights within the college premises. He said the initiative aims to boost security and create a safer, more conducive learning environment for both students and staff.

“This college holds a special place in my heart,” he said. “As a former Head Boy of the old Government Teachers’ College, Sakwa, I vividly remember those early morning assemblies, the lessons under mango trees, and the invaluable guidance from dedicated teachers who shaped who we are today.”

He continued, “Returning here today is more than just a political duty—it’s a homecoming, a walk down memory lane, and a reaffirmation of my lifelong dedication to the growth and development of this great community.”

Jatau underscored the Bala Mohammed administration’s steadfast commitment to transforming education in Bauchi State. Among the administration’s achievements, he listed the construction and renovation of classrooms statewide, recruitment and training of teachers, and provision of essential instructional materials such as textbooks, writing supplies, science kits, and ICT tools.

He further highlighted efforts to revitalize girl-child education programs, particularly in rural and underserved areas, as well as the establishment of model schools and the rehabilitation of longstanding educational institutions.

Expressing gratitude to the college management for honoring him with an award of excellence, Jatau promised to continue supporting the college to ensure it achieves greater academic success.

Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Katagum, Umar Farouk, emphasized the crucial importance of educating girls and commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration for its significant investments in the sector.

Earlier, the Principal of Government Girls College, Sakwa, explained that the award presented to the Deputy Governor recognized his crucial role in the institution’s development and ongoing progress.
