The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has donated school bags, books, pens, and Bibles to pupils of the Nigerian Red Cross Nursery and Primary School in Makoko, Lagos, as part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities.
In addition to the educational materials, the society also distributed foodstuffs to 70 households during the event, held on the school premises on Friday.
Speaking at the programme, the Manager of Production and Programme for BSN, Mrs. Grace Benjamin, who represented the General Secretary, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, said the initiative was part of the society’s corporate social responsibility project known as Macedonia Call.
Benjamin explained that the donations were aimed at helping families cope with the current economic challenges facing the country.
“This is not our first time in Makoko. We have visited Makoko twice before. We are here this morning to give our lovely pupils school bags, books, pens, and Bibles. We also gave our parents some foodstuffs,” she said.
“We know that this will not solve all our problems, but we want to help in alleviating the current economic challenges. The government is trying on its part to address the country’s food crisis, but this is our way of showing that we are a socially responsible organisation.”
The Lagos Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, Olakunle Lasisi, expressed gratitude to BSN for the donations, stating that the organisation would continue partnering with credible groups to support vulnerable members of society.
One of the beneficiaries, Adebanke Fagbamila, whose daughter attends the school, said the school supplies and food items would help ease her family’s financial burden.
