WAEC Debunks Rumoured Cancellation of 2025 WASSCE, Assures Public of Result Release

WAEC WASSCE exam malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has strongly refuted a fake press release alleging that all papers from the recently concluded 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) had been cancelled.

In an official statement issued by the Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC’s Yaba office in Lagos, Moyosola Adesina, the council emphasized that the false report currently circulating on social media did not originate from WAEC and should be completely disregarded by the public.

According to Adesina, the council has just concluded the marking of examination scripts and is on track to release the results on or before Thursday, August 4, 2025.

“The attention of WAEC, Nigeria, has been drawn to a press release alleging the cancellation of all 2025 WASSCE papers due to examination malpractice and question paper leaks. We want to state categorically that this information is false and did not emanate from WAEC,” she stated.

She attributed the misinformation to individuals seeking to create confusion and discredit the examination body. She reassured candidates and stakeholders that the examination has not been cancelled and preparations for the release of results are already in motion.

WAEC urged the public to rely solely on its verified social media platforms and official communication channels for authentic updates and information.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed the alleged cancellation as entirely fabricated and misleading. In a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the Ministry clarified that the 2025 WASSCE was conducted successfully, with only minimal and isolated cases of malpractice that were swiftly handled by the appropriate authorities.

Boriowo further disclosed that the ongoing NECO examinations are also progressing without any reported incidents of malpractice, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to credible and transparent conduct of public examinations.

She warned the public against spreading false information and advised that accurate details should be obtained only from verified sources such as the official websites and social media handles of the Ministry, WAEC, and NECO.

The Ministry also issued a stern warning that anyone found guilty of spreading fake news will be reported to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.

Both WAEC and the Ministry reiterated their dedication to upholding the integrity of public examinations in Nigeria and ensuring that candidates are not misled by malicious fabrications.
