The University of Ibadan (UI) has called on prospective students to take advantage of its Open Distance eLearning (ODel) programme as a viable pathway for university education in the coming academic year.

According to a statement released by the Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre (UIDLC), Prof. Babatunde Omobowale, the institution has commenced a special screening and verification exercise for Post-UTME candidates who have opted to switch their mode of study to the Open Distance eLearning platform.

Prof. Omobowale described the initiative as a valuable opportunity for qualified candidates nationwide, particularly those unable to secure admission through JAMB or traditional on-campus study at UI. He explained that candidates are expected to update their records on the portal and can either proceed with online verification or visit the Admissions Office at the UIDLC Administrative Building, located along Sasa-Ajibode Road, Ibadan.

Highlighting the benefits of the programme, he noted that the ODel learning experience offers interactive course guides, real-time virtual lectures via the Mobile Class platform, and periodic physical interactive sessions with the same faculty lecturers and dedicated e-tutors. This flexible approach, he said, makes it ideal for young entrepreneurs, working professionals, and others seeking quality education that accommodates their lifestyle.

To qualify, candidates must possess a minimum of five relevant O’ Level credits in one sitting or six credits in two sittings.

Prof. Omobowale further disclosed that all new and incoming students are required to attend an orientation programme scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the CBT Complex, UIDLC. The orientation will provide insights into academic policies, campus resources, and student support services, while also helping students connect with lecturers and peers.

He emphasized that the special admission exercise will only run for a limited period, closing at midnight on Friday, October 10, 2025.
