The University of Ilorin has emerged overall champion of the 12th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC), excelling in Public Speaking and winning the Novice Debate stream on home ground.
In the Debate Mainstream category, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, claimed the championship title, while the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Veritas University, Abuja, secured second and third places, respectively. In the Novice Debate, UNILORIN came first, ahead of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The host institution also celebrated individual brilliance, with Olafisoye Alexander and Tivlumun Alexander ranking among the top three Best Speakers of the tournament.
In the Quiz Challenge, the University of Uyo took first place, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, finished second, while UNILORIN secured third position.
The week-long event drew participants from universities nationwide, including the University of Ibadan, University of Uyo, Lagos State University, Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, Nile University of Nigeria, University of Maiduguri, and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, among others from across northern and southern states.
In their closing remarks, the Organising Committee described the championship as a platform for fostering critical thinking, leadership, and intellectual exchange among Nigerian youths. They commended UNILORIN for successfully hosting the 12th edition and urged participants to carry forward the values of teamwork, excellence, and constructive dialogue.
Participants equally lauded the hospitality and organisation of the host university, praising the fairness of adjudication, seamless logistics, and warm reception. Many described the experience as a lifelong memory that combined competition with friendship and cultural exchange.
The championship further reinforced UNILORIN’s reputation as a hub of academic and intellectual excellence.
