The University of Ilorin has received full accreditation for 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it submitted during the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise conducted in October and November 2024. The only exception, the Hausa programme, was granted interim accreditation.
The outcome was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu. The letter, signed on Ribadu’s behalf by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engineer Abraham Chundusu, emphasized that no programme was denied accreditation.
This was disclosed in a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.
According to the statement, all 17 courses submitted from the Faculty of Education received full accreditation. Other programmes that secured full accreditation include Finance from the Faculty of Management Sciences; Anatomy from Basic Medical Sciences; Computer Science from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences; Chemical and Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; and all courses presented from the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Additionally, three courses from the Faculty of Physical Sciences and four from the Faculty of Social Sciences were fully accredited. From the Faculty of Arts, Igbo was fully accredited, while Hausa received interim accreditation.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor expressed his excitement and pride, describing the outcome as a reward for the university’s commitment to excellence. He attributed the success to the institution’s sustained investment in human and material resources.
Professor Egbewole extended appreciation to the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all academic staff who contributed to the achievement, and assured that the University will continue working toward further recognition.
