The UNICEF has expressed concern over the persistent challenges affecting access to quality early childhood education in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, stressing that every child deserves equal opportunities to early learning regardless of their background.

This was made known on Tuesday by the Chief of UNICEF Field Office in Sokoto, Michael Juma, during a media dialogue workshop organised by UNICEF in partnership with the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The workshop, themed “Strengthening Early Childhood Education and Access to Quality Education,” focused on increasing public awareness, encouraging policy sustainability, and promoting community engagement in early childhood education across the three states.

Speaking at the event, Juma noted that access to quality early learning remains a major concern, particularly for children living in disadvantaged and underserved communities in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

He emphasised the need to build stronger political commitment toward increased public funding, innovative approaches, and greater involvement from parents and communities to ensure that all children have fair access to early childhood education.

Juma also commended the Governor of Sokoto State for his continued support and commitment to improving education in the state.

Reiterating UNICEF’s position, he stated that every child should benefit from free Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), describing it as a critical foundation for lifelong learning and development.
