The University of Ibadan (UI) has announced that the special admission window for its Open, Distance, and e-Learning (ODeL) undergraduate programmes will officially close by midnight on Friday, October 10, 2025.

The institution urged all applicants—whether currently undergoing screening or planning to apply directly—to complete their admission processes before the stated deadline.

In a statement, the Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre (DLC), Professor Babatunde Omobowale, described the UI-ODeL model as a flexible pathway to earning a reputable University of Ibadan degree. He explained that the programme offers opportunities to qualified candidates who are unable to gain placement through the traditional JAMB/UTME route.

According to him, the platform also caters to individuals who require flexible study schedules due to work or personal commitments, as well as those seeking credible alternative routes to higher education.

Professor Omobowale further announced that matriculation for newly admitted students will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2025, at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre (ICC). He described the event as a significant and compulsory ceremony marking the official induction of new students into the prestigious institution.

The matriculation will also feature a special highlight — the Matriculation Lectures, to be delivered by distinguished first-class graduates of the UI-ODeL programme. These include Mr. Olalekan Akolade Abass (Computer Science), who will speak on mastering flexible learning; Mr. Akindubi Jelili Babatunde (Psychology), who will discuss achieving academic excellence through distance learning; and Mr. Okoye Mark (Political Science), who will explore the opportunities available to UI-ODeL students and alumni.

The Centre also reiterated that admission remains open to candidates with five relevant O’Level credits in one sitting or six in two sittings. Available programmes span across various faculties including:

  • Sciences: Computer Science, Statistics
  • Social Sciences: Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science
  • Humanities & Education: Philosophy and Public Affairs, Communication and Language Arts, English, Social Work, Educational Management, Guidance and Counselling, and Library and Information Studies.
