The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has unveiled a comprehensive three-year plan aimed at reintegrating 10 million out-of-school children across Nigeria back into the education system.

Speaking during a two-day retreat for senior staff of the commission, UBEC Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, stated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce the country’s out-of-school children population by 70% between 2025 and 2028.

She explained that the retreat was designed to assess the commission’s progress since her assumption of office and to realign on strategic priorities for the months ahead. “Our focus is to strengthen teamwork across UBEC and SUBEB, foster collaboration with state governments, and ensure our efforts align toward delivering quality basic education for every Nigerian child,” she said.

Hajiya Garba emphasized the urgent need to reform primary education in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the goal is to guarantee 100% access to basic education, enhance learning outcomes, and drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children.

So far, UBEC has made strides in infrastructure and access, having constructed over 3,700 classrooms, established 34 Model and SMART schools, delivered more than 142,000 pieces of school furniture, and reached over 181,000 learners nationwide.

She reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to mobilizing stakeholders and delivering results through coordinated national and state-level action, ensuring no child is left behind.
