Tinubu Approves Key Appointments Across Nigerian Federal Universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved several key appointments across federal universities, including new additions to governing councils and principal officers in various institutions.

Chisom Obih has been named to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. Her appointment comes following the demise of a former council member.

Similarly, renowned communications scholar and former Head of the Mass Communication Department at the University of Lagos, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, has been appointed to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who was recently appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

In another major decision, President Tinubu appointed Colonel (Rtd.) Ibrahim Yakasai as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

Yakasai, who currently serves as the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, also chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He holds an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is a member and fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK). Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Winchester and fellowships from the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

Other appointments at the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, include Hamisu Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Sanusi as Bursar, and Shehu Liman as University Librarian.

These appointments underscore the federal government’s commitment to strengthening the leadership and academic excellence of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
