A total of 4,169 teachers across Nigeria failed the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
The examination, held between May 15 and 17, saw 13,782 teachers register, with 12,874—representing 93.4 per cent—actually sitting for the test. The remaining 908 candidates, or 6.6 per cent, were absent.
According to a statement released on Thursday by TRCN’s Director of Certification and Licensing, Dr. Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, 8,705 candidates, or 67.62 per cent of those who sat for the exam, passed, while 32.38 per cent failed.
Lagos State recorded the highest pass rate with 80 per cent, followed by Edo State with 73.3 per cent, Niger State with 69.2 per cent, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 68.3 per cent.
Dr. Ezeahurukwe noted that low digital literacy among some teachers was one of the key challenges that negatively affected performance. She stated that the TRCN, under the leadership of its new Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, is implementing initiatives aimed at improving teachers’ digital competencies.
These plans include online digital literacy training, curriculum guides, and access to past examination questions to help candidates better prepare for future tests.
The council advised all candidates to check their results online via www.fron.gov.ng or www.trcnigeria.ng, or to visit any TRCN state or liaison office. Successful candidates have been urged to begin processing their teaching certificates and licences, noting that the examination result is valid for one year from the date of publication.
Dr. Ezeahurukwe encouraged candidates who did not pass to strengthen their digital and pedagogical skills ahead of the next examination batch scheduled for November. She reiterated TRCN’s commitment to the professional development of Nigerian teachers and the promotion of quality education in the country.
