The Towulade of Owu Akinale in Ogun State, Oba Oluseyi Adediran, has declared that parents in the Akinale community will no longer be allowed to keep their children away from school, insisting that every child must have access to education.

The traditional ruler made this known during the official launch of an education support initiative on Monday, where pupils received free school uniforms, exercise books, and writing materials. The event, according to a statement issued on Tuesday, marked the beginning of the monarch’s efforts to improve education in Akinale.

Oba Adediran emphasized that education remains the foundation for securing a better future for young people.

“We all understand the value of investing in our children because they are the leaders of tomorrow. No child in Akinale must be left out of school. My chiefs and I are in full agreement—any parent who neglects this responsibility will face sanctions,” he warned.

The monarch also revealed that a second phase of the programme would be introduced within the next few months, noting that plans are in place to further support teachers and upgrade learning facilities across the community.

He commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his continued investment in the education sector, adding that his own intervention is aimed at complementing government efforts.

“As a stakeholder working closely with SUBEB, it is part of my duty to support these children and strengthen the work already being done by the government,” he said.

The initiative was championed by Olori Oluwafolakemi Adediran, who highlighted the need for parents to play an active role in their children’s learning journey.

“Some children may sometimes be difficult, but parents must stay committed. No child should be allowed to roam the streets or engage in hawking. Education remains non-negotiable,” she stated.

She further disclosed that the programme includes a merit-based scholarship scheme, reserved for pupils who achieve top academic grades in public schools.

A teacher from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Akinale, Mr. Akinyemi Olusola, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, applauded the monarch’s efforts, stressing that the development of education requires collective responsibility.

“We appreciate Kabiyesi for this impactful gesture. The government alone cannot do everything. Individuals and institutions must also contribute to uplifting education,” he said.

Oba Adediran received his Staff of Office in July, where he was encouraged to promote unity and support development initiatives within the community.
