NELFUND Directs Institutions to Upload Student Data for Loan Processing

Nigerian students benefited from NELFund

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a directive to all accredited tertiary institutions to verify and upload their students’ data on the Student Loan Application System (SLAS) to facilitate smooth and timely processing of student loans.

This directive was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi. According to her, SLAS has been fully digitised to streamline the student loan experience, making it more efficient for both institutions and applicants.

With the upgrade, institutions are now required to formally request access to SLAS in order to upload and verify student data associated with loan applications. Oluwatuyi described this step as crucial to ensuring the prompt approval and disbursement of loans to eligible students.

She urged institutions that are yet to be onboarded to immediately send an access request to [email protected]. Once granted access, institutions will be able to use a real-time dashboard to verify student data, monitor application status, and track disbursement progress.

Emphasising the importance of immediate action, Oluwatuyi noted that verification and data upload by institutions are mandatory prerequisites for final loan approval and disbursement. She clarified that students whose loan application status currently shows “Verified” have passed preliminary checks, but final approval depends on institutional confirmation and data upload.

“Once this process is completed, your status will be updated to ‘Disbursed’ when the payment of your fees has been processed,” she explained, calling on all institutions to act swiftly in the interest of their students.
