The National Examinations Council (NECO) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence, discipline, and competition through the 2024 Productivity Award, a colourful ceremony that recognised outstanding staff members and top-performing students in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and other NECO-administered tests.
Delivering his welcome address, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, commended the dedication of the Council’s workforce and highlighted the importance of continuous training and development in advancing Nigeria’s education sector.
He stressed that the event was not only about recognition but also about instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and ethical service. “This ceremony is not merely about recognising performance; it is about embedding a culture of discipline, continuous improvement, teamwork, and ethical service,” he said.
Professor Wushishi added that celebrating outstanding individuals serves as a reminder that excellence remains possible despite challenges, and should be upheld across all areas of the organisation.
The Registrar also urged students to see their success as a source of inspiration for their peers, attributing such achievements to perseverance, family support, and guidance from teachers. He encouraged those who did not receive awards to remain motivated, assuring them that their potential is boundless and that NECO will continue to provide mentorship and opportunities.
Calling on staff, he charged them to renew their commitment to integrity and excellence across operations—from grading to administration—emphasising that credibility and trust in Nigeria’s examination system depend on their collective efforts.
The ceremony reinforced NECO’s mission of delivering fair, reliable, and timely assessments, while also recognising that the combined efforts of staff and students are vital to strengthening the nation’s educational landscape.
Attendees left the ceremony inspired, with a renewed determination to uphold the highest standards in service to Nigerian students and the broader academic community.
