The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art digital ICT park at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of efforts to deepen innovation and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
The facility, donated by the NCC, was officially unveiled on Tuesday during an inauguration and handover ceremony held at the university campus.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, described the ICT park as a strategic initiative aimed at fostering research, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. Represented by the Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, Mr. Abraham Oshadami, Maida said the park is one of six flagship digital infrastructure projects established in select academic institutions across Nigeria.
“In today’s world, technology stands as one of the most powerful drivers of economic and social transformation,” Maida said. “For Nigeria’s evolving economy, it represents our greatest opportunity for inclusive growth.”
He explained that the ICT Parks, themed “One Roof, All Possibilities”, are designed as multidisciplinary innovation hubs, housing facilities such as high-capacity computer labs, simulation rooms, intelligent networking systems, collaborative workspaces, and multipurpose halls.
According to the NCC, the initiative aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy and the strategic vision of the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, expressed gratitude to the NCC for the donation, describing the park as a milestone in bridging the digital divide and promoting a knowledge-based economy.
“The world is undergoing a fourth industrial revolution driven by digital technologies. Only nations that invest strategically in digital infrastructure and innovation will thrive,” Adebowale said.
He added that the ICT Park would significantly support the university’s mission of preparing future leaders and innovators equipped to navigate and shape the digital future.
The newly commissioned facility includes a 100-seat main hall, five dedicated ICT hub halls, a 24-seater lounge with eight dual-computer workstations, multiple shared workspaces, and administrative offices.
