The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern warning to a self-acclaimed president, urging the individual to desist from actions that distract the association from its core mission of representing Nigerian students.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Secretary General of NANS, Olatunji Adejuwon, the association condemned the actions of the individual, describing them as deliberate misinformation aimed at causing division within the student body. NANS stated clearly that the said individual is not a recognised leader within the organisation and is allegedly pursuing personal interests and financial gain under the guise of student leadership.
The association further criticised the person’s repeated attacks on government officials, particularly the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, calling it a calculated attempt to take advantage of the current political climate for selfish purposes.
NANS called on all genuine student activists and comrades to remain focused and united, stressing that the association’s objectives are too critical to be derailed by internal distractions or manipulated by individuals with hidden agendas.
The statement concluded with a warning that NANS will not allow itself to become a tool in the hands of those seeking to advance personal or political interests at the expense of students’ welfare and the association’s credibility.
