Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, has announced plans to establish a multi-campus university of medicine in Badagry as part of efforts to promote development in the historic town.
Mr. Sule made this disclosure during the inauguration of the newly remodelled Badagry Town Hall, held as a valedictory event in honour of the outgoing council chairman, Olusegun Onilude.
According to the commissioner, the proposed university will bring significant economic prospects and create job opportunities for residents.
“This will create employment opportunities for everyone in the town. Additionally, the general hospital here will be upgraded to a teaching hospital,” he said.
Mr. Sule praised Mr. Onilude for his commitment to infrastructural development in Badagry.
“I am pleased we are inaugurating this ultra-modern town hall today. It serves not only Badagry Local Government but also the two Local Council Development Areas.
“I want all Lagosians to know that Badagry remains a key factor and symbol in our state. Badagry is recognised globally, and whoever represents this town carries a significant responsibility,” he said.
He added, “God has His way of rewarding His people. Onilude, God will surely reward you.”
Mr. Sule described the outgoing chairman as a thorough professional known for his calm demeanour, diligence, and integrity.
“Onilude distinguished himself among the twenty education secretaries during his tenure as Badagry’s education secretary before becoming chairman,” he noted.
The commissioner also urged the people of Badagry to continue supporting the party in its development initiatives.
