The Students’ Union of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHETSUG) has strongly opposed the recent tuition hike announced by the institution’s management, demanding an immediate reversal within 48 hours.
In a statement jointly signed by the union’s President, Akolade Omotuyi, and General Secretary, Favour Animashaun, the students described the decision as insensitive, given the economic hardship facing many families.
“It is disheartening that this increment was introduced without considering the prevailing financial struggles of students and their parents. Many are already grappling with basic academic and welfare costs, and this steep rise in fees only worsens their burden,” the statement read.
The union noted that the new school fees reflect an increase of more than ₦50,000, while many students also complained of paying for services in the previous session that were never delivered.
Following a congress meeting held on September 23, 2025, which had the participation of students and departmental presidents, LASCOHETSUG declared the increment unacceptable. The body demanded that the management immediately revert the fees to the previous rate.
The statement warned that failure to act within the 48-hour deadline would force students to embark on a peaceful but indefinite protest, potentially disrupting all academic activities on campus.
Efforts to obtain comments from the institution’s Director of Public Affairs and Dean of Students’ Affairs proved unsuccessful, as messages sent to their mobile numbers were not returned as of press time.
