The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria and the US Consulate, has trained 50 public senior secondary school teachers in Educational District 6 on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in teaching and learning.

The two-day training aimed to improve the participants’ ability to use technology in the classroom. General Secretary of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria, Mr. Iyke Chukwu, said the goal is to equip teachers with practical skills in AI, robotics, and innovative teaching methods.

He explained that the initiative would enable teachers to return to their schools and apply what they have learned to improve teaching quality. According to him, the workshop is a train-the-trainer model, where participants are expected to replicate the training in their schools.

One of the facilitators, Mr. Olalekan Adeeko, said the training introduced the teachers to how AI can support their work in the classroom, including lesson planning, marking, and attending to students with different learning needs.

A participant, Mr. Omotayo Olamilekan, a Chemistry teacher at Matori Senior Grammar School, described the training as timely and useful. He said the knowledge of digital tools and the Internet of Things will help teachers better prepare for modern classrooms.

Another participant, Mrs. Fakunmoju Kikelomo, thanked the organisers, noting that the training will make teaching easier and help with quicker assessments and evaluations.
